Casa del Oro – California State Park
This garden, once a parking lot, now serves as a gateway to Monterey State Historic Park, and enhances pedestrian connections to Monterey’s historic adobes. BFS Landscape Architects facilitated a collaboration between State Parks, the City of Monterey, and the Historic Garden League (a local volunteer group), and provided design concepts through complete construction documents.
The garden is detailed to be visually distinctive while maintaining sensitivity to the historic surrounding. Careful grading creates welcoming terraces connected by broad stairways. Stonework is a connecting element found in walls, steps, and a central fountain.
