This garden, once a parking lot, now serves as a gateway to Monterey State Historic Park and enhances pedestrian connections to Monterey’s historic adobes. BFS Landscape Architects facilitated collaboration between State Parks, the City of Monterey, and the Historic Garden League (a local volunteer group), providing design concepts through complete construction documents.
The visually distinctive garden maintains sensitivity to the historic surrounding. Careful grading creates welcoming terraces connected by broad stairways, and stonework is a unifying element found in walls, steps and a central fountain.
