BFS Landscape Architects have a long-standing relationship with Santa Catalina School providing thoughtful designs to complement the historic setting in which the campus sits. The Rosary Chapel, built in the 1950s, is clad with iconic Carmel stone and custom stained-glass windows and is a treasured space for both students, alumni, and the local community. BFS was commissioned by the school to provide a landscape that demonstrated the school’s commitment to reducing water use as well as creating a large outdoor event space. BFS designed a landscape in the Mediterranean planting style, using native and drought-tolerant plant massings. Through the use of stone and brick in the entry plaza, BFS seamlessly extended the chapel entrance and framed the Chapel’s iconic mahogany entry doors with large specimen Olive trees. Transforming the landscape has given the Chapel a sense of prominence and distinction.
