Hellyer County Park Playground
The playground at Hellyer County Park was designed to be a destination play space for the community of south-east San Jose. During the initial design phase, BFS worked closely with Santa Clara County Parks to develop a distinctive character that fit within the vision of the park system. The playground has three distinct areas of play. BFS worked closely with play equipment manufacturers, to design custom play structures that provide ample opportunity for children to seek out more challenges as they grow and mature. The centerpiece of the playground is a wood fort, a 2-tower structure that is 24-feet tall, and an extensive climbing structure composed of all natural materials. The playground also has a recirculating custom water splash pad with a custom fabricated boulder plumed with inlaid nozzles and a control system to manage the water use and filtration. The majority of the playground is shaded with both existing trees and large scale custom shade structures.
