McCarthy Park

Located near the heart of downtown Hollister, McCarthy Park is a 1.5-acre park nestled between an established neighborhood, a high school, and a commercial corridor. McCarthy Park was an existing park that had been minimally developed by the City of Hollister. The BFS design team was selected to transform the park into a city treasure.

The initial program for the park was extensive, the City and the community had many needs to be met. The City received a state grant but overall funds for the park were limited. BFS and our team of consultants brainstormed on how to best accommodate the park program by developing creative solutions that would be cost-effective, maximize limited space, and create a park that had a distinctive identity.

The diverse range of activities available at McCarthy Park includes a skate spot, a splashpad, covered picnicking, a large lawn for events, and a rehabilitated basketball court, plus more! Priorities for the park included managing stormwater through the use of LID planters, using drought tolerant and native plants to minimize water use, and keeping the park a safe space for all users.
