West Camp Park and Douglas McArthur parks are a part of the 244 acre planned community of East Garrison, located on the former Fort Ord Army Base. The planned community will have 1,400 units and the neighborhood parks are a central focus in creating a small-town community.
West Camp Park is a ½ acre park with several amenities providing active recreation opportunities for the surrounding neighbors. The custom play structure provide a social space for children as well as mixed activity. Alongside the playground is a sand volleyball court bringing families and neighbors together.
The Douglas McArthur Park is an acre sized park with a playground, picnic facilities, shade structures and a large turf area for open play. To capture the stormwater runoff, a swale is located along the entire perimeter of the park. Various park amenities allows for multiple neighborhood residents to use the park simultaneously.
Both parks were designed using drought tolerant plant materials to ensure that water use was compliant with state ordinances as well as tolerant of fierce winds that rip through the Fort Ord corridor.
