Through many implementation phases, BFS Landscape Architects designed many of the public parks found within the 244-acre community since 2014. East Garrison is located on the eastern edge of the former Fort Ord Army base and is surrounded by open space, agriculture, and CSU Monterey Bay.
Many of the parks within the community are an acre in size and provide a wide range of recreational activities. Amenities include playgrounds, sand volleyball, bocce ball, horseshoe pits, basketball courts, picnic areas, and a stage with an amphitheater for concerts and gatherings. To design the parks within the overall design character of the community yet have a distinct identity, BFS used activity programming, site design, and thoughtful material selection.
As the community has some of the most stringent and restrictive water use measures in the state, BFS carefully selected materials and plants that are proven to be successful within the challenging coastal marine environment of Monterey Bay.
