Designed to be a destination play space for neighborhoods southeast of San José, BFS worked closely with Santa Clara County Parks to develop a distinctive character for the three play areas to complement the vision of the park system. Working with the consultant team, BFS managed the project schedule, budget, and overall design aesthetics. As the new playground needed to fit within the existing site the design team worked together to find collaborative solutions to the many infrastructure constraints.
Coordinating with the play equipment manufacturers, BFS designed custom play structures to provide opportunities for children to seek out new challenges as they grow and mature. The centerpieces of the playground are a 24-foot tall two-tower wood fort structure, a random log-climbing structure composed of natural materials, and a recirculating water splash pad with a programmed control system to manage the water play. Most of the playground is shaded with existing trees and large-scale custom shade structures.
