The Monterey Bay Coastal Trail ultimately will link all communities along Monterey Bay. In Monterey County, the award-winning trail connects such diverse areas as the Del Monte Dunes, Fisherman’s Wharf, Monterey State Historic Park, San Carlos Beach, Cannery Row, and Lover’s Point.
Since 1987, staff at BFS Landscape Architects has been involved in the extensive planning and design of numerous trail segments from Sand City to Pacific Grove. Among the issues addressed are beach access, visual quality, safety, and historic preservation. BFS provides ongoing planning and design services, including parking studies, lighting improvements, Coastal Commission permits, TEA grant application materials, computer simulations, detailed design, native plant restoration, and construction review assistance.
With Alta Design Group as prime consultant, BFS assisted with the preparation of the Monterey Bay Scenic Trail Master Plan. This document identified critical trail links for short-term and long-range planning.
