Stormwater management was a prime concern with this multipurpose sports field project at Mayfield Park, built by Stanford University along with the City of Palo Alto on Stanford University property.
Per city regulations, a storm drainage system could only release stormwater from the fields at pre-development rates. BFS Landscape Architects assisted with design and specifications and collaborated with the project geotechnical engineer to establish soil and percolation capacity. The BFS team then expanded the subsurface drainage system to detain estimated stormwater runoff volumes.
